Tyto režimy, držící se u moci po desetiletí (23 let v Tunisku, 29 let v Egyptě), byly otřeseny. Robustní policejní síly a tajné služby (180 000 policistů v Tunisku, 1,8 mil. v Egyptě) byly neschopny zkrotit revoltu. Tuniský prezident Ben Alí byl donucen opustit zemi 14. ledna, zatímco egyptský prezident Mubarak musel rezignovat 11. února.

What are the Perspectives for the Revolution in the Arab Countries?
In the past two months, millions of people in Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Yemen, Algeria and other Arab countries have gone out onto the streets against dictatorial regimes. These regimes, in power for decades (23 years in the case of Tunisia, 29 years in the case of Egypt), have been shaken. Massive police forces and secret services (180,000 police and spies in the case of Tunisia, 1.8 million in the case of Egypt) were unable to contain the revolt. The Tunisian president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali was forced to flee the country on January 14, while the Egyptian president Mubarak had to resign on February 11. »»»»

An alarm signal for the arab autocrats and the imperialists
The impact of the first revolutionary fall of a dictator in the Arab world in this century has reached not only the Maghreb and the Near East, but all the European governments are now extremely worried by the evolution of the situation. The process that led to the fall of Ben Ali goes back a long way. It is the Tunisian expression of an accumulated popular anger, intensified by the effects of the world economic crisis on the semi-colonial periphery against the regimes that arose from processes of winning independence. Decades ago, these regimes ceased to rely on vague nationalist rhetoric or invoking Arab socialism, to go over completely to being the best servants of imperialism and of its neo-liberal, privatizing offensive in recent decades, with everything that implies in terms of destitution and oppression for the subordinate classes. »»»»

El impacto de la primera caída revolucionaria de un dictador en este siglo en el mundo árabe no sólo ha llegado a Magreb y Oriente Próximo sino que todos los gobiernos europeos están hoy en día preocupadísimos por la evolución de la situación. El proceso que llevó a la caída de Ben Ali viene de lejos. Se trata de la expresión tunecina de una bronca popular acumulada y agudizada por los efectos de la crisis económica mundial en la periferia semicolonial contra los regímenes surgidos de los procesos independentistas. Éstos dejaron hace décadas ya de apoyarse en una vaga retórica nacionalista o invocar el socialismo árabe para pasarse con armas y bagajes a ser los mejores sirvientes del imperialismo y de su ofensiva neoliberal y privatizadora de los últimas décadas, con todo lo que esto implica en términos de miseria y opresión para las clases subalternas. »»»»

Die Auswirkungen des ersten revolutionären Falls eines Diktators im 21. Jahrhundert in der arabischen Welt haben nicht nur den Maghreb und den Nahen Osten erreicht. Auch die europäischen Regierungen sind über die jüngste Entwicklung tief besorgt. Es handelt sich um einen langen Prozess, der zum Fall des Diktators führte, und die aufgestaute Wut der tunesischen Massen verstärkt durch die Effekte der Weltwirtschaftskrise in der halbkolonialen Peripherie gegen die aus den Unabhängigkeitsprozessen hervorgegangenen Regimes kanalisierte. Diese haben schon längst die schwammige nationalistische Rhetorik bzw. den Verweis auf den arabischen Sozialismus hinter sich gelassen. Dafür haben sie sich in den besten Diener des Imperialismus und seiner neoliberalen Privatisierungsoffensive der letzten Jahrzehnte erwiesen.
