The sixth European Social Forum will take place on July 1-4 in Istanbul (Turkey). More than 200 seminars and workshops are planned in a 13-axis program with an emphasis on the causes and consequences of a systemic crisis, under the slogan “another Europe is possible”. On July 3, the streets in Istanbul will be filled with up to 100,000 demonstrators. More information about the social forum can be found at www.fse-esf.org.

The ESF has gotten smaller every year: while more than 70,000 people attended the first ESF in Florence (Italy) in 2002, probably less than 10,000 people attended the fifth ESF in Malmö (Sweden). The fourth ESF in Athens was a bit of an exception to the downward trend, due to the large participation of the revolutionary left from Greece and Turkey. We can expect that the sixth ESF in Istanbul will also have a large revolutionary contingent.
